War Remnants Museum

The War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City is a striking reminder of the horrors of war. One of the most historically important attractions in the city, it features graphic photographs, military vehicles, and various weapons related to the Vietnam War (also known as the Second Indochina War or the American War in Vietnam), and in part, the first Indochina War.

Conveying the human cost of war against a backdrop of military weaponry, the museum grounds display US armored vehicles, artillery pieces, bombs, fighter planes, helicopters, and tanks. Inside, the ground floor is devoted to photographs and posters depicting the anti-war movement, while the displays upstairs are more graphic, with photographs depicting the traumatizing effects of Agent Orange, napalm, and phosphorus bombs, plus some of the experimental weapons used in the wars.

The museum is often visited on a variety of Ho Chi Minh City cycling and walking tours, many of which also include the city's other top attractions, such as the Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral, and Ben Thanh Market. The War Remnants Museum can also be visited in combination with a river speedboat tour.

Insider's Tip: The War Remnants Museum is an important historical and military museum in Vietnam. While all ages are welcome, caution is advised if visiting with children due to the nature of some of the exhibits, particular upstairs.
