What a day out!! From being picked up outside our apartment at 7am to being dropped back there at 6pm, the day was a delight of food, drink and amazement at how the beautiful food is made.
The lunch is not for the small eater and takes place in a glorious country location and takes a good 2 - 3 hours, with wine flowing.
The early start is necessary so that you get the full Parmigiano-Reggiano experience as remember it is a working factory, and they do not work around your timings! We did not eat before being picked up which in hindsight may have been a blessing as the breakfast at about 10am is substantial and the Lambrusco Rosso is excellent as an accompaniment water also available.
There are no real reviews that can do this tour justice as you need to experience it yourself. Fabio, the guide is also extremely knowledgeable and amusing, and you do want to take him home with you at the end of the trip. It is full value for money and a full five stars from me.

The memories from this tour will last forever. My husband and I took this tour as part of our honeymoon to Italy and we both agree that it gave us a new appreciation for parmesan, balsamic vinegar, and prosciutto. In addition to learning HOW these products are made, you learn so much about the history of these products, their impact on each of their individual towns, and gain a new found respect for the people who dedicate their lives to bring us these products. Accomplishing all this on a single tour can only be done with an excellent guide and Alessandro MADE this tour for us. As a local, he displayed such a deep passion for these products, the towns, and the hard working people who create them that it's easy to get on board with him. He was full of high energy which is key at the early start time hour and has a great sense of humor. He clearly loves what he does and it shows!
The day started very early when our driver picked us up from the front door of our B and B in Bologna. My husband and I were joined by 3 others and along the way to the Parmesan factory, we picked up another person. The large SUV was clean, spacious, and our local driver made us feel welcome. The early hour start time was well worth it when we arrived at the Parmesan factory to see it in full working mode. Alessandro took us step by step throug the process as the men worked beginning with the cream and ending with the final block of cheese. The full tour lasted about 2 hours and finished with a tasting of several various ages of cheese. These was followed with a delicious breakfast and an opportunity to purchase various aged Parmesan vacuum sealed to take home. Our driver then took us to the Modena vinager factory which included a tasting and another opportunity to buy. There was about a 30 minute drive to the proscuitto factory where the tour lasted about 90 minutes. We were then treated to an enourmouse spread of proscuittos and wine. As if that wasn't enough, the next stop was a local restaurant where grandma served us a multi course meal. Needless to say, you won't need to eat dinner that night! If you are interested in really learning and gaining insight as to how these products are made and enjoy eating, this tour is for you!

A great day, well worth the early start, excellent value for money. 3 really interesting factory visits with delicious sampling opportunities! Do not eat breakfast before you go! And then rounded off with a fabulous lunch.

What a fantastic tour. I wasn't sure how entertaining visiting some places to see how they made delicious food would be, but this was a great experience. Our hostess was amazing. The food was great. And there was plenty of wine to be had. The stop I had the lowest expectations for, the balsamic vinegar aging farm, ended up being incredible. I had no idea balsamic vinegar could taste like that.
Also met some awesome people from all over the US. What a great time. Highly recommended.

Really worth it - amazing host . He spoke very very good English and was entertaining, funny and extremely knowledgable and passionate about all of the foods we visited. The meal at the end is huge and the wines are delicious. Highly recommended . You need a day away from Bologna if there for a long weekend as it is a bit claustrophobic.

This tour was amazing!!! Alessandro is quite a character, and the tour would not be the same without him. Lunch was scenic and fantastic, and the inside view we got at the factories was worth the money for this tour.

This was the highlight of our two week trip to Italy. Food and wine is such an integral part of our day to day life so this tour seemed like a no brainer. After taking the tour, I fully understand the dozens of 5 star reviews found here on Viator, the ItalianDays page. their Facebook page, etc...
I can't think of a fault or a reason not to take this tour. If you're considering it, go ahead and book it- you will not be disappointed. I was hesitant at first because of the price but it is worth the 150 and more. My biggest regret was not choosing to book other food tours through this company.
The van will pick you up at your door we had stayed at an AirBNB listing so the pickup is not limited to hotels, you will be stuffed with amazingly decadent and delicious food throughout the day while touring the factories, and if you choose to skip the food at the factories you still have the 3 hour lunch to fill your belly!

Our day-long Bologna Food Experience was amazing. The four-stage tour, led by our knowledgeable and passionate host Elenora, incorporated: a an early morning tour of a Parmesan cheese factory, where every step in the process of creating and storing the cheese was explained and demonstrated for us in great detail, followed by a meat/cheese/Lambrusco breakfast, b a visit to a low-volume, estate balsamic producer in Modena, where we learned of the elaborate, generations' long process of creating 12- and 25-year balsamic vinegars and tasted a number of examples, c a visit to a prosciutto storage/aging facility where every step of the process was explained and several samples were served, and d an amazing, 3-hour lunch hosted at a local winery where multiple courses were paired with at least a half-dozen of the winery's white/red offerings. It would be absolutely impossible for us - coming from the U.S. - to come even remotely close to replicating each of these experiences ourselves, let alone trying to accomplish it all in the course of a single day. Please know this - any conceivable doubt you might have about the fee paid for this experience will have completely evaporated by the end of this amazing day. It was that great! We could only imagine how we might be capable of trying to replicate a similar type of experience in the U.S. for a visiting Italian tourist who was interested in, say, California's wine country or another cultural region.

An excellent tour. Elena was our guide and she was very enthusiastic and knowledgable . Alessandro was around much of the time and was a convivial host at lunch. Breakfast was good , cheese, ham etc together with Lambrusco and coffee. Lunch was excellent in beautiful surroundings in a restaurant on a bio agritourist farm, 3 pasta courses, meat course and pudding, with unlimited local wine to taste. You get the opportunity to buy parmigiano , balsamic vinegar and wine at the various visits , but I don't think you can buy the ham. A very enjoyable day out and you will definitel

A full day of traveling from a cheese factory, to a vinegar and winery, to a lavish lunch at a local eatery. The people doing the tour were fantastic, energetic and informative. The winery was beautiful. The eatery was great, the food delicious. Overall, just a great experience.
