Departing Hoi An on your Central Highlands tour, your first stops are a 1,000-year-old Cham temple and former U.S. and French military bases from past wars.
Then wind your way into the mountains and through tea plantations, home to the Co Tu people. Take a break to check out a tea plantation before visiting one of the few remaining Co Tu woodcarvers and his family. Enjoy a home-cooked lunch in their house, and then continue your journey into the mountains. This area is very isolated, and the culture and traditions remain essentially untouched by time, providing a beautiful and remote environment home to one of the most authentic hill tribes left in Vietnam.
Your final stop for the day is Bho Hoong, a traditional Co Tu village, for your overnight stay in the stilted Co Tu huts. Little has changed in the past hundred years in Bho Hoong, and it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of central Vietnam. A light village walk, guided by a local resident, allows you to explore the village and unlock its cultural secrets. After your walk, you are free to enjoy a dip in the river before your evening activities, which feature a dinner of Co Tu dishes, traditional music performances, and a chance to interact with the villagers, gaining more insight into their rich culture. Groups of four or more will be treated to a bonfire and traditional dancing, as well.
Afterward, retreat to your luxuriously outfitted accommodation, where the serene setting and clear mountain air lulls you to sleep.
Day 2: Dong Giang – Hoi An (B, L)
In the morning, wake up to the sounds of the village coming to life. Enjoy breakfast and a hot cup of coffee as you watch the morning activities of the Co Tu heading out into the fields or preparing the day's meals. After saying farewell to your Bho Hoong hosts, head back out on the winding mountain roads, stopping at another Co Tu village to see brocade weavers, a craft the Co Tu are known for.
Then embark on the historic Ho Chi Minh Trail, through lush forests and past views of the mountains. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any more beautiful, you'll arrive at a waterfall, tucked alongside a towering peak, for a picnic lunch. In the afternoon, descend back toward the coast, stopping along the way to explore historical sites and places of interest before returning to Hoi An.
