After arriving at the distillery, which dates back to 1749, go on an informative 45-minute tour of the facility and its lush grounds. See the copper pot stills that are responsible for the rum’s distinctive flavor, and get a peek inside the aging house, where rum is store in oak barrels for up to 30 years. A friendly, knowledgable guide will provide information on the distillery’s prestigious history as one of the island’s first rum producers. Learn what makes Appleton’s rum so unique: local water naturally filtered by limestone, sugar cane molasses and a signature yeast culture.
Next comes the best part of the tour: sit down to taste 10 different varieties of rum, along with fresh-pressed cane juice, a local treat. After sampling there is the opportunity to purchase souvenir bottles to take home; some labels are only available in Jamaica. At the end of the tour your guide will return you to your hotel in Negril.
