This is a must if you're only in San Jose for a day or two. Jurgen lead us around town, explaining the historical and cultural context. We went around food markets where we got to try some local fruit. Then we were taken a little further out for a very nice dinner. Not your typical tourist experience, but a great way to get a feel for San Jose if time is short.

Eric is a wonderful and knowledgeable tour guide! We learned so much about Costa Rica from him. We enjoyed our delicious dinner, as well.
Thank you, Eric! Pura Vida!

Marion, our tour guide, was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. It was a pleasure to be on this tour, and I learned a lot about the history of this city. The group was a lot of fun, and I would definitely reccommend this tour to others. The only thing I would suggest is that the information about the dinner was a little bit misleading. It wasn't in the location which I expected, however, the neighbourhood and restaurant itself were still charming and inviting. I was expecting to sample more local food for dinner, and the sample menu was not a close match to the food we had. However it was still tasty and I would return to the restaurant again. It also suggested we would have three drinks, but we only had two. All in all though, I'm very pleased I went on this tour, and Marion made a wonderful guide. Highly recommended.

We received a tour of the Central Market, and we then proceeded East on a walking tour of areas of significance to Costa Rica. The National Theater, the cultural plaza, the old theater, any many parks with monuments that memorialized the rich history of Costa Rica's path to independence and it's current political. All of these sites were discussed by our guides with stories of the people memorialized and the stories of the struggles and conflicts. If you in like local history, you will find this interesting. We passed the national Train Station and were provided the long and comical story of it's and the national railroad systems construction, history, and decline. The government doesn't have the resources to properly operate and maintain all of it's infrastructure. We arrived at the restaurant and were seated outside, which was nice on mild evening. The food was good and the beer cold.

The tour has evolved and you no longer go to Escazù and it's 2 drinks not 3. The best way back to where your staying is by Uber, so make sure you have that app. It cost us 27 USD to get to the Central Market and 11 USD back.

My husband and I were a bit surprised that it was just us on the tour, but that was probably because it was the down season. Out guide, Carolina, was knowledgeable and personable. She led us through the central market and a number of lovely parks. We learned a lot about Costa Rican history and culture. High points for me were learning about traditional medicine and superstitions and seeing the political murals. I was a bit disappointed that the dinner was at a fairly standard bar, but it seemed popular among the locals, so it was an authentic experience.

The name of the tour needs to change since it no longer includes a trip to Escazu. :- The tour however was a succinct way to get the feel and your bearings in San Jose. We did a lot of walking thru the town and to the restaurant... definitely a few miles. It was a beautiful evening and the group of 6 and the tour guide, Jurgen, had a delicious dinner and an enjoyable evening in the outdoor area of the restaurant. Since we didn't have to go all the way out to Escazu, the short Uber drive back to our hotels was much easier. Jurgen was knowledgeable and provided good background and history on the sites of San Jose.
