After early morning hotel pickup in Seoul, sit back and relax in your comfortable coach seat as you head southeast to Gyeongju, located in the Gyeongsang province.
Arrive late morning at the Gyeongju National Museum, which showcases the rich history of the former capital city. Your guide takes you through the main hall, where you’ll see earthenware, weaponry, ceremonial pieces and jewelry, including an imposing 5th-century gold crown. Explore other halls and outdoor museum grounds showing sculptures and art from the Korean Buddhist movement, which flourished during the Silla period, as well as artifacts excavated from Anapji Pond, your next destination.
Head to Gyeongju National Park and find beauty at Anapji Pond, a large oval artificial body of water at the royal palace of Wolseung. Hear about the pond’s 1974 excavation, which revealed three underwater mounds of land and hundreds of relics, and then snap pics beside the peaceful pond and pavilion.
Next, visit the national treasure of Cheomseongdae Observatory, the oldest surviving astronomical observatory in Asia. Learn about its unique architecture and its use in forecasting weather.
Marvel at the royal burial sites in Tumuli Park, where 23 outdoor tombs shaped like grassy domes dot the area. Stop by the most famous ones of Cheonmachong and Hwangnamdaechong, housing mountains of jewelry and valuable relics to reflect the king’s and queen’s lavish lifestyles.
Enjoy lunch and dinner (own expense) at restaurants in Gyeongju, and wrap up your day by checking in at your hotel in Gyeongju city for the night.

Day 2: Hotel – Seokguram Grotto – Bulguksa Temple – Folk Craft Museum – Seoul (B)
Pack your bag and enjoy an American-style breakfast at your hotel. Then hop aboard your coach to Seokguram Grotto, a hermitage of Bulguksa Temple — each earning UNESCO status separate from the general historical areas of Gyeongju. Seokguram is located halfway up Toham Mountain overlooking the East Sea. Inside, discover a serene Buddha sculpture and learn about the unique granite construction of this shrine.
From here, continue to the main complex of Bulguksa, meaning ‘Temple of the Buddha Land.’ Constructed during the 8th century, Bulguksa is one of the most famous Buddhist temples in Korea. Admire two stone pagodas and other important Silla relics with the help of your guide.
Next, wander through Gyeongju’s Folk Craft Village, located in the foothills of Toham Mountain. Pass by hanok, or traditional Korean houses, including thatched and roof-tiled houses, where artisans of the area live and work to preserve the crafts from the Silla period.
Enjoy a delicious lunch at a Gyeongju restaurant (own expense) and then relax as your coach transports you back to your hotel in Seoul.
