The windmill tour was very interesting. Enjoyed the cheese store and 5 min demo. I think our expectations were very high that this would be a very educational tour and there would be alot more there. It really is not a 3 hour tour...we were done in about 2 hours and then just kind of walked around killing time. We were not there to stop to eat or drink coffee so maybe that would take up some time. I thought this tour was overpriced compared to the many Viator tours we have had. It was almost triple what we paid in Krakow for a four hour tour where we really saw a great deal. I would just go to Zaanse Schans on your own. Pay for UBER and walk around on your own.
We were a little skeptical when we got to the location because it just seemed like a tourist trap - and it is - but Bart did a great job providing us with information and answering absolutely every question we had. As a local, he seems well-known there and we even spontaneously got to sneak inside a separate room of the pigment windmill and get a little explanation from the owner. You could tell that wasn't planned. The windmills were definitely the best part.
The tour was very good. Particularly the working windmill tour, clog and cheese making demos.
Our guide was excellent - including her personal childhood memories and family experiences.
If not for the rain, it would have been crowded. It was a bit commercialized but I would recommend the tour.
Driver picked us up on time in comfortable minivan. Drove us to Zaanse Schans where we met our local guide, Ingrid. She was actually a resident of the village and was very knowledgeable. I love a guide who really knows the facts and can share them with humor and an upbeat attitude. She was such a joy. Request her if possible
A definite must do tour when in Amsterdam. The day we spent on this private tour was just perfect. My family and I were picked up promptly at our apartment and spent an amazing time with Ingrid showing us around the windmill village. Not only was Ingrid friendly and knowledgeable, she was so personable and such a treat to be with. This tour was the highlight of our trip to Amsterdam and we highly recommend anybody visiting takes the tour.... don't forget to request Ingrid, you won't regret it!
We really enjoyed the tour. It has the excellent flexibility to see and do what you want. Our guide was the owner and although somewhat taciturn, gave us a good experience and didn't pressure us to see more, seem disappointed that we weren't going fast enough or when wanted to go to the bathroom, etc. We had a fairly narrow window of time 4 hours on a cruise ship that this tour fit perfectly into and didn't lock us into a specific time frame. The amount of walking wasn't excessive even for members of our party who had mobility limitations who had a cane or were older. The village was quite cute and a fun experience to see cheese making, windmills, chocolate making, and do a bit of souvenir shopping. Our drop-off point was requested not to be the same as our pickup which was very handy and the guide was very accommodating. Would definitely do this again especially if you have some specific window of time that you want to fit activities into like we did.
