This tour was perfect for myself and 2 friends. Osama and the driver was great. The van they picked us up in had these cute pink chairs with brown polka dots. It was air conditioned and very comfortable. Osama was always ready to hold our purses and take pictures for us.
The itinerary for the day was great. First stop were the Giza pyramids. We had the camel ride there and that was amazing. The ride wasn't included as part of the tour and I don't remember the exact price we paid for it but it wasn't expensive to me. Sphinx was next. Then the papyrus museum. It was very interesting and informative. I read that some people said the employees really push you to buy but I didn't feel like that when we were there and we didn't end up buying anything. I did tip the guy that explained the process of making the paper.
We went to the perfume place next and it was cool smelling all the different scents. My friend bought some. Had a great lunch with lots of little dishes/appetizers and then the main meal of chicken and lamb. Next was Saqqara. Osama saved us by telling us to not pay to go inside the pyramid at Giza but to wait until we got to Saqqara where we could go in the only remaining pyramid that had hieroglyphics in it for free. That was amazing to see as well as the tomb in there. Beware of random people inside there though trying to give you information and then asking you for tips. Last stop was Memphis which is like an open air museum with a smaller version of the Sphinx as well as a small building that holds a huge statue of Ramses II.
Overall, it was a great trip. You see a lot but I didn't feel overwhelmed. Osama was very knowledgeable and helpful. Definitely recommend!
Really enjoyed our day with Mamdouh guide and Sayed driver. Mamdouh was very friendly and knowledgeable about all things Ancient Egypt, and truly imparted his enthusiasm for the sites and stories to us.
We would not have been able to take in all of the wonderful sites on our own without the guide and driver, and they had cold waters and snacks waiting for us in the car after our trekking the the 100 degree heat. The free lunch was also quite tasty.
We were offered chances to stop and purchase certain items papyrus, perfume, etc. at various shops, but it was by no means compulsory.
Highly recommended for others looking for an affordable, rewarding day seeing Ancient Egyptian sites near Cairo.
My friends and I had a great tour with Emo Tours, we had Mahmoud El Wakeel as our tour guide plus a driver. He was so kind, informative and thoughtful and certainly personalized the tour to our interests. Before we even got started, he noticed we were a little jet lagged and asked if we wanted coffee. Mahmoud took us off-tour at no added expense to get incredible Turkish Coffee - it was so sweet of him! Also stopped for hookah along the way before we had an amazing lunch. We loved seeing the sights and Mahmoud knew so much about their history he studied history in school!. We thoroughly enjoyed driving around, seeing the sites, and learning all day about Egyptian history - crazy cool. Would definitely recommend!
Also, we felt completely safe with Mahmoud in Cairo and the surrounding towns. He gave us some suggestions for what else to do in Cairo and around Egypt. Very happy to have visited and experience this.
The tour in itself is very good value for money. However, although we liked our guide Mahmud. he did try some of the usual scams/tourist traps which although we did not fall victim to, it wasted time and spoiled the day to some extent
1 Papyrus Museum - the tour includes time to visit the so called museum. It is actually a shop and the tour guides and shop owners know each other quite well. They will give you a 5 minute demonstration of how papyrus is made and then try high pressure sales tactics to make you buy for ridiculously high prices. If you are not interested in going to buy papyrus and want to spend more time at the actual pyramids - make this very clear to the tour guide as they will most likely make the papyrus shop to be something like a museum and part of the tour. Needless to say, the tour guide makes a healthy commission on anything you buy from the shop
2 Perfume Museum - Had he only taken me to the papyrus shop I would not have been as annoyed, but they also took me to the so called perfume museum. This was in some dingy part of Giza, and the shop was empty. They took me in to the back to give me a demonstration and talk about the benefits of the perfume. will always offer you tea and drinks, but flatly refuse the offer as this is a method of making you feel guilty in to buying something later. As we sat down in the back I realised this was going to be a waste of my time when the shopkeeper started his script about how beneficial the perfume is . I made an excuse about being allergic to the perfume and walked out of the shop. A quick google search revealed that the perfume shop scam has left many people out of pocket so please avoid if you can .
3 carpet shop/any various other shops - told the guide did not want to to any other museums and he want to go back to the hotel but be wary of any so called museum which is not on your itenirary
4 the free lunch scam - as part of the tour you are taken to a restaurant next to the pyramids. Here lunch is free but drinks are not. They do not give you a menu. I found the food to be quite bad set menu but this is to an individual taste and others might like it. The scam here is they do not give you a menu for the drinks - the guy next to me after eating and drinking his coca cola, realised that he owed the restaurant 12 per coca cola which he was very upset about. I was glad I had only ordered water which ended up costing me 5. These are ridiculously high prices for cairo where a coke costs 1 in a high end hotel. Needless to say the tour guide must have made a commission here too.
4 Other than the scams, the tour guide was pretty informative and I would recommend the tour but avoid the scams
This was an amazing tour. I received a personal one-on-one tour with M. Gouda who is extremely knowledgeable about everything Cairo. He is very thoughtful, kind, patient and fun. He went out of his way to take me to the market so I could have some authentic coffee, walk around, and just have me take in a few more sights that were not included in the package out of the goodness of his heart. He never complained about the heat, he took his time to explain everything and made sure that I had a great time. He provided me with complimentary snacks and a nice cold bottle of water as soon as I got in the car which he opened every time for me. As a vegetarian he provided me with many options for my lunch. He thought of everything. I couldn't be happier. It was like I was with my friend.
my trip to the pyramids were really great and my tour guide Naur was very helpful and made it very interesting and he gave me time to look and be more independent in my journey. i felt safe as viator provided a good reliable service and it was my first time using them. The price i paid was very good and i got to see and do alot and got a nice average meal at the end. I will not forget ths trip and the pyramids are amazing to see and i am so happy it went well. I was expecting alot of stress buying unwanted things bur it was almost perfect apart from asked to sit on a camel and someone coming up to put a head scafe and saying it was good to meet up and then charging you for the previlege of their service. i thank viator and will use them as the price i paid to do the trip was resonble.
Worth every penny. This tour exceeded each and every expectation. EMO tours and tour guide expert Ebrahim Hema delivered. Want pictures with that post card background? Ebrahim knew every spot to get that perfect angle. Need help with Egyptian bargaining? He got you. A tour and friend for life.
