We had an excellent time on this trip. We arrived too early as we were still on ship's time but the local fishermen completely looked after us by phoning the company to find out when we should expect them.
The crew of the boat were all great - really looking after myself, husband, son 17 and daughter 15. I was a little scared in the water but the crew looked after us and helped my daughter try a bit of free diving which she was over the moon with. A photographer accompanied the trip and took some great pictures which we bought for 30 on a disk. However, they also said they would email them to us but they never did. Tequila and beer was included on the trip and there was a great sun deck on top of the boat which we took advantage of.
I am 64. This trip was a long trip out to the snorkeling site. Water was drowning everyone on the small boat on the way out. Everyone was miserable. I had my snorkel mask over my eyes to stop the salt water burning my eyes, I had the snorkel in my mouth to keep out the salty water and my finger in my ear to keep the water from pounding my ear. I did enjoy the snorkeling but it was not as fantastic as I had anticipated. My sister and I purchased the photographers disk, it was 35 and we gave him 40. The disk is empty. We are hoping this is a mistake and will be worked out. As this was my sister's first time snorkeling we really wanted the pictures. My advice snorkel from the shore. Others on our cruise did this and saw more sea life than we did.
Amazing experience! It was our first time snorkeling and we were super excited for this activity. The Chac Choc Snorkel Tour providers were very professional. Great instructor, underwater photographer, on-board drinks juice, water, beer, fresh cut fruits. There was an eco-bathroom on the boat no toilet paper in flush, as well as a glass bottom section to view the sea floor, which was pretty cool.
They also provide pickup points from selected Resorts Secrets Aura, Iberostar, but you need to call/visit them to confirm that.
Had a trouble finding the exact location of Chac Choc tours at Marina Fonatur language barrier plus not visible on Google Maps. Restrooms/ showers available at Marina Fonatur after the snorkel tour.
Also, the photographer emailed us all photos the same day, which was great!
Highly Recommend this one!!
This was a first rate excursion from start to finish. Taken to the dock, supplied with gear, and taken to three amazing places to snorkel. The guide spoke English, so everything was easy to understand. The reefs were beautiful and we had plenty of time to look at everything! A must do!!!!!
Our group of 8 had a fantastic time on this tour! We are college students with little experience snorkeling, and this was a great tour for beginners like us. We were able to see a sting ray, sea turtles, starfish, and many other fish. Since it was a tour with people outside of our group of 8 we were swimming into people often really the only downside to things. The boat and crew were amazing!! There was a photographer that got amazing pictures of us and sold them for a fair price. There was plenty of beer to go around and the crew even dropped us off at a restaurant for lunch at the end of our tour! Everyone was very friendly and we would definitely do it again if given the chance!
The location of the tour was a 15 minute cab ride from the cruise pier. This was fine getting there but when the tour ended there were no cabs available and we had to wait 45 minutes for a cab to take us back. There were 10 people from our cruise taking this tour so a ride to and from the tour location should have been included even at an additional cost.
The tour itself was a bit disappointing for a few reasons. First, we were not made aware that we would be stopping at two other docks to pick up additional passengers. Granted, they were on the way to the snorkel spot but an advance notice would have been nice.
When we picked up 6 guests at one dock, those of us already on the boat were asked to move to the front of the boat because the water there was shallow at the pier. Once the new guests, boarded, they took the seats of the original guests who were now all crammed at the front of the boat.
In total, from the time we left the pier to the time to the first snorkel stop, it was close to 1 1/2 hours. And the first stop was a brief 15 minute snorkel to see a few starfish on the sandy bottom. That was a waste of time. We then went to the reef part of the snorkel tour and although there were numerous fish, and quite close, the actual reef was too deep to see much of it. We did see an octopus, an eagle ray and some turtles.
The boat staff also seemed indifferent. They did provide safety instructions and handed out the necessary equipment. But they instructed everyone to put their flippers on and walk to the back of the boat and jump in. And then the two staff members did just that, leaving everyone to fend for themselves including several very senior citizens on board who could have used some help. One lady actually fell while trying to get in the water.
We have been on many snorkel excursions and never have we been asked to try to walk on a rocking boat with flippers on and jump into the water.
Help while getting back on the boat was minimal with very little assistance from staff members.
There was beer, pop, juice and potato chips offered to everyone on the return trip.
