We signed up for this tour along with another couple. One thing we did not realize was that we would be sharing a scooter with our spouse, and the scooters are not very large. So for two full sized adults it is a tight fit. Our first stop was at the beach called Three Brothers. We parked our scooters and walked down to the sea level. We took off our shoes and actually got into the water. It was about the same temperature of the Pacific Ocean in California around 65 degrees - chilly. Rolf our guide suggested we follow him into a narrow inlet partially filled with water to see an octopus. We waded in and stood with our cameras poised for a shot of this octopus. Rolf handed me his shirt and hat while I tried to manage my camera. It was amazing capturing an octopus in a tide pool. From this spot we took off for Lagos. I feel the need to explain the challenge of driving or maneuvering these scooters along the highways. We have never driven scooters using round-a-bouts and the drive contained them all day long. We were presented the challenge of driving the scooter on actual highway type of roads, narrow cobblestone roads, backroads dirt bike type conditions, and crowded city streets. There were several stops along our drive. One was at a Chapel of Sano Antonio from the 15th century. The next was a slave trade site where people were brought from Africa and other locations and sold on this site. On the ceiling was painted a map showing various locations where people came from and were sent out. Houses were tiled on the outside with interesting patterns. Rolf took us to some magnificent sights along the coast. I believe the area is called, Carvoeiro where grottos, islets have been carved out of the rock along the coastline. The water was amazingly clear. I was snapping pictures like crazy. It was picturesque. Rolf was great about taking us to a local place to get a few souvenir items and grab a bite of lunch. One person in our group opted to ride with Rolf in his car on the way back. He returned us to the cruise ship we came in on, and even offered to take us back into town after we dropped off the scooters. Rolf really went out of his way to make our time in Portimao truly enjoyable.
