We enjoyed it very much. Learning how tile is made, tasting wine and cheese and sampling local licquor. Paulo our tour guide was. excelent. He even went out of his way to show us a local restaurant to eat at. We wanted something small and typical of Portugal.
Paulo was an excellent guide who is proud and knowledgeable about the area. He was accommodating to our requests stopping when we expressed an interest in looking at something more closely. I would highly recommend this tour and the company that runs it. Very well organized and because of that we were not rushed at any of the venues. The two wineries we visited were spectacular and the final stop was a combination family run winery and jam making spot. We were treated to four different wines and got to sample eight different jams with locally made bread and cheese. Fabulous day! In the end we sampled over 10 different wines and muskatel.
The Viator tour was awesome and we ended up with a private tour of several wineries, a distillery and awesome information from local experts. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the quality of this tour and the wine expertise of the guide who is also a motorcycle enthusiast which made the day wonderful. My wife and I are members of numerous wineries but this Lisbon Wine Tasting experience was not only unique but very memorable and well worth our time! Thank you!
Paulo our guide was very helpful and wine knowledgeable and we had a very enjoyable time visiting three wineries. He also gave us insight to the setubal wine region and took us to a really great restaurant for lunch.
We were picked up at our B and B door on time. Our driver was friendly and informative as he droveus to our first stop at a small winery in Setabul. We sampled four excellent wines and toured the winery. Everyone was so nice. We then went on to two more stops to sample wine a spirits. Each stop was wonderful. An amazing day.
So this review is a little tricky to write because I really enjoyed the setubal region and the wineries chosen by the tour company. It is a very small group and that is also very enjoyable however, our tour guide- Paolo was a little strange. Since it was only my cousin and I in the tour, he started to talk about how we should all have lunch together. We obliged but little did we know that he wanted us to also pay for his lunch. I don't think he would have been able to pull this if there were more people in the group. I think he was knowledgeable but he really was not very interested in explaining to us much about the grapes, history etc. he did so in the beginning and then when he was happy that we said yes that he could have lunch with us, he stopped explaining many things to us. It's almost like his entire agenda was to score a free lunch.
However, overall I gave the tour a four-star because the wineries chosen by the tour company were excellent, the wine tastings were very good and in the last stop, we went to a liquer and spirits tasting which was also very good. I don't want people to be misguided and not pick this tour. in my opinion , it was a very good tour however, you can ask for a different tour guide. Also, it would be nice for the tour company to train this particular guide to be more professional. At the same time, there were other groups from the same tour company with different tour guides which we kept running into at all the wineries. We noticed that they were very knowledgeable and were explaining a lot about wine tasting, grapes etc.
Ask to take this tour with Ricardo! He is very knowledgeable about the wines, and enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge. We had a wonderful time touring 3 very different wineries -- one with a large production, one very small production, and one with excellent brandy. The last winery included bread, cheese, jam, olives, and olive oil with the tasting - yummy! Great tour, and since it was private, we did not have to share our guide with a large group. Wonderful personal attention!
Really loved this private tour with Ricardo! He is so knowledgeable of Portuguese wine and the area. A truly positive and fun man who made this day with my 77 year old mother very enjoyable. Thank you Ricardo!
Our sons gave us this tour as a Christmas gift and since theyve never experienced or been to Portugal, they booked this tour just based on the reviews and they were not wrong!! Our guide, lucky for me and my husband, was none other than the owner of the tour company John Dickmann or Joao in Portuguese - definitely second to none - top notch service from start to end. He is extremely knowledgeable about Portugal and the wine industry. His warmth and generosity made us feel like lifelong friends. We highly recommend him and his company to anyone who would love to visit Lisbon. We hope to visit Morocco one day and would love to have John or someone from his company be our guide. If we could give more than 5 stars, we definitely would!!
