We took the Bernina Express Scenic Train Journey from Chur to Tirano and then back to Chur on May 21st. The views that we saw were beautiful and the train seats in second class were really nice. There were seven of us and we were able to sit all together on the train. The hostess that passed through the train cars selling refreshments was delightful. We also enjoyed our time in the Italian town of Tirano. We were able to eat lunch at a little restaurant near the train station and still had plenty of time to do some souvenir shopping before boarding the return train. It does make for a long day to ride the train both ways in one day, but that was the only way we could get it to work into our trip plans. So it was still worth it to do it that way. The only reason I gave the trip 4 stars instead of 5 stars is because of the Bernina Express employees who worked at the train station in Chur. It wasn't clear from our tickets what car to board. There were three employees working together at the train station that day. They seemed much more interested in talking with each other than to help our paying guests. In addition, one of the male employees was rude when we approached them with questions because we couldn't speak German. It left a really bad taste in our mouths to start off the trip. Other than those employees, the trip was great and I would recommend it.
This was amazing, beautiful and well worth it! Go first class for the most comfort. Bring a camera and snacks as there is not much available on the train. We took the Bernini Express from Chur to Tirano and then back again in the same day. It was great because the weather changed and we saw completely different views on the way back. Chur is also a lovely little town to spend a couple of days.
Really enjoyed the ride. The scenery is so beautiful. The town of Chur is worth staying a few days. Quiet place and friendly people. The staff on the train were very nice and you just ride and enjoy the scenery and it is more than words can say and pictures look nice but seeing it in person is worth so much more. The stop for lunch was in such a great place and the food was great. Nothing bad about this trip. Just wish it had snowed a little more.
