My Christmas vacation to Vienna, Austria would not have been complete without this walking tour. Wolfgang and Patrick really were able to let me see Vienna through the lens of a local. From the moment we met up with them in front of the cathedral they made us feel like they had known us for years. These two couldn't have been more engaging and approachable if they tried. Their friendly attitude and happy-go lucky attitude were infectious and quickly put the entire group at ease and within minutes we were all interacting like long lost pals. After our introductions we started out on our trek across the city. First, they gave us a very thorough explanation of the public transportation system that made the rest of the week a breeze. I only wish I had booked this tour day one! A few quick stops later and we found ourselves in a local café greeted by the friendliest staff. While several tours advertise a "local" experience, I can tell you this time if felt more authentic than ever before. You heard and saw the cashier ask our guides about family and interact with each other in a way you typically only see in small towns. It happened to be Wolfgang's birthday the day we went on the tour and on more than one occasion he was greeted with a song and an offering of champagne and cake to commemorate the occasion. From the first café we went on to experience food from what felt like every corner of the globe and yet it was truly all "local". The immigrant population has truly integrated into the local fabric of the city and it felt completely normal to have a Viennese coffee and pastry in the morning and enjoy a Turkish Tea and dessert after lunch at a local food stand. It all fell together effortlessly. I won't ruin all the surprises, but if you keep an open mind you are sure to try cuisine and enjoy new experiences that you would never have imagined when you booked the tour. Not that the food had been bad up to that point in our vacation, but we were able to try amazing quality food on this tour that far surpassed everything we had tried on our own. We found ourselves going back to these places in the following days for more. It was better, fresher and less expensive than what we found anywhere else.At one point I closed my eyes to take in all the sounds from the local street market overflowing with people and languages from all over Europe. Each group shouting advertisements for their goods in their native tongue transporting you from Serbia to Turkey and back
A wonderful personable and knowledgeable guide took us to parts of Vienna that tourists never experience. We rode the subway, took a tram and visited several street markets as well as restaurants that only the locals frequent. From great coffee and tea to fruit, cheese, nuts,Syrian bread, falafel, delicious goulash, chocolate and more. Highly recommend this tour.
This was a great tour with Wolfie meeting me at the correct place and time. The others arrived on time too. Wolfie gave us a rundown of where we would be going and then we started. A coffee in a really nice place and then food, food, food. The range of snacks on offer was impressive with Wolfie explaining what locals would eat and when. There was just the right amount of info about non-food stuff and Wolfie also got the balance right with allowing the customers to speak and share. This was helped by the others on the tour who were great company. The tour lasted 4 hours and we visited many places that I know I wouldn't have seen on my own. We covered a lot of ground walking and used the subway several times. The highlight for me was the less fashionable part of Vienna which had a great fruit-market, street food and ice cream cafe. Wolfie also recommended a few places to eat in the centre - I tried these and they were both excellent. I can't recommend Wolfie or the tour highly enough. It represents great value and is best done at the start of your visit.
Outstanding doesn't start to describe the wonderful time we had with Will and Wolf. The small description in the Viator on-line catalog doesn't do this tour justice. These guys have developed a perfectly timed, perfectly executed, and perfectly tuned tour of the foods of Vienna. From the easy meet up to the seamless multiple metro rides to the many, many stops around Vienna, it was easily seen how this tour packs a big punch into half a day. I do not see how anyone can go away hungry after this! And they did a great job when we threw them a bit of a curve when we told them one of my family is vegetarian. They made a special effort to get her a separate order that was just as special as what we all were feasting on. Great job guys! You guys rock!
Unique, interesting, delicious. Friendly guides! My husband and I took this food tour in Vienna and loved it. It takes you off the beaten path beyond where the tourists go. I won't spoil the surprise and share all of the markets and foods you will eat and the districts you will see, just know that this tour is worth every penny. The guides are easy going and are the type of locals you'd love to have a beer with. The pace was also good -- not too fast, not too slow and we didn't bake in the sun. It was a great mix if outdoor walking and indoor spots.
The tour guides are fantastic, all of the food and tastings were amazing and highly tailored just to our group by locals who took us into the neighborhoods they grew up in and are most familiar with. We saw areas of Vienna we never would have known to venture in to but are worth it for the amazing market, donut cart, etc.! I would go again!
Fantastic tour! Patrick was a great tour guide. The description above does not match everything we actually experienced but it was very good and we went to parts of the city we would never have seen. Instead of the torte we had the fluffiest donut thing ever, still had great coffee and a great day.
This tour was one of the best I have taken. Patrik really goes out of his way to not only give you the food highlights and delicious tastings but a lot of the history as well. He takes you to places that are unique to Vienna. I highly recommend the tour and Patrik a proud Viennese native.
This could not have been a better tour. Patrik made it so much fun and personal. He took us to his favorite places in parts of Vienna I would have never explored on my own. Don't eat before this tour, we had healthy servings of apple and cheese strudel from a cafe frequented by the locals, delicious coffee, sausages, breads, pastries from not only the Viennese cusine but baklava too. He also included the history of some of the beautiful buildings we passed and of the parts of Vienna we visited.
